While countless musicians, both famous and not-so-famous, have covered songs by The Who over the years, the legendary rock band isn't particularly known for covering tunes by other artists (though there have been a few exceptions). So it's no surprise that fans can't get enough of a recent video featuring frontman Roger Daltrey performing a rare cover on acoustic guitar...while sitting at someone's kitchen table, no less.

In a clip shared on TikTok, Daltrey, 81, strummed and sang the 1968 classic "I Got Stripes" by Johnny Cash. The rock icon was dressed casually for what appeared to be an impromptu jam, wearing a long-sleeved grey t-shirt, jeans, and a pair of tinted glasses.

Fans in the comments were quick to gush over Daltrey's skills (and choice of song).

"A legend sings the legend," one person wrote, with a second agreeing, "Legend and so often forgotten in the power frontman discussion. Roger defined it."

"Admiration overload for this man," declared another fan, as someone else asked, "How do I get him to come to my kitchen table???"

Roger Daltrey has been known to sing Johnny Cash songs to warm up his voice

As it turns out, Daltrey (like so many others) is a longtime fan of Cash. As Country Standard Timereported, during a 2009 solo tour stop in Boston, Daltrey played a medley of Cash's most beloved tunes, including "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Ring of Fire." He then went on to rave to the crowd about the late country icon, encouraging them to "find some Johnny Cash songs, sing whatever you like, and your life will be all the better."

Daltrey has also been known to use Cash songs to warm up his voice before concerts. In a video clip from The Who's 2006 concert film Fragments, he took his guitar into a bathroom to sing "There You Go" in preparation for the stage, noting, "this gets the voice nice and low, and used to singing."
