Breezy Johnson tells PEOPLE about her Olympics engagement to fiancé Connor Watkins
Johnson reveals that of course Taylor Swift, who gave the skier a sweet shout-out, is invited to her wedding
Johnson says her public proposal was always the plan
Breezy Johnson is glowing in the days after her Olympic gold medal, her Olympic engagement and, of course, her shout-out from Taylor Swift.
Johnson, who won the women's downhill event at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Feb. 8 and then got engaged three days later when her fiancé Connor Watkins got down on one knee at the finish line of her Super-G race, is still trying to make sense of her whirlwind week.
"A couple of nights ago I finally got a chill night. We went out for sushi, just got some time with my fiancé, and just relaxing a little bit. I think the medal still doesn't feel totally real. I still keep thinking that somebody's going to come in and be like, 'We made a mistake. We're going to need that back,' " Johnson, 30, tells PEOPLE with a laugh on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

And while the shock is still settling in, the alpine skier was aware the proposal was happening — she had been dropping hints that she loved the "idea of getting engaged at the Olympics" to Watkins for a year and a half. They had an alternate plan if Johnson wasn't feeling the public proposal, but it didn't end up being necessary.
"I was like, 'If I panic text you that morning then eject,' " she recalls. "But I actually felt good about it, and obviously everything kind of went to plan ... It was perfect."
Watkins nailed the details, from sweet words that made Johnson cry, to a wooden ring box engraved with the lyrics to their favorite Swift song, "The Alchemy."
"We had the lyric, 'Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy,' [on the ring box] which is a lyric from the song," she says.
And then, soon after Johnson posted about the engagement on her Instagram, Swift herself responded with a big "CONGRATULATIONS!!!" and a few more lyrics from "The Alchemy" — which just happen to be some of the skier's most-loved.

"One of my favorite other lyrics from the song is, 'Where's the trophy? He just comes running over to me,' " Johnson says, adding "It was cool," for Swift to pick those exact ones for her comment.
"The Taylor Swift comment was not something that I ever expected," she continues. "It was really cool seeing her comments, seeing her just love love."
And as for if Swift — a bride-to-be herself — is getting a wedding invite, Johnson says the pop superstar has an open invite.
"I mean, listen, Taylor can probably go to any wedding in the U.S. and everybody would welcome her with open arms," Johnson says, with a laugh. "She is of course welcome to join. I do not expect her to have any time to do that, but..."
