President Donald Trump reacted to being called out by Prince Harry on Thursday
During a speech in Kyiv, Harry called for "American leadership to step up" in Russia's ongoing attacks on Ukraine — without naming Trump directly
When asked about the prince's comments, Trump responded, "How's his wife? Please give her my regards"
Ahead of King Charles's state visit to the U.S. next week, President Donald Trump reacted to comments from his younger son, Prince Harry.
The Duke of Sussex made a surprise trip to Ukraine on Thursday, April 23, where he gave a powerful speech at the Kyiv Security forum and called for "American leadership to step up" — without naming Trump directly.
“The United States has a singular role in this story,” Harry said. "Not only because of its power, but because when Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons, America was part of the assurance that Ukraine’s sovereignty and borders would be respected."
“This is a moment for American leadership," he continued. "A moment for America to show that it can honor its international treaty obligations, not out of charity, but out of its own enduring role in global security and strategic stability.”
Later that day, Trump was asked by reporters in the Oval Office about the prince’s remarks. He initially deflected, making a brief reference to Meghan Markle.
"Prince Harry? How's he doing? How's his wife?" Trump said. "Please give her my regards."
He then added, "I know one thing: Prince Harry is not speaking for the U.K. That's for sure. I think I'm speaking for the U.K. more than Prince Harry. But I appreciate his advice."
Trump made headlines in 2019 for calling Meghan “nasty,” before later denying the remark. In an interview with The Sun at the time, he reacted to Meghan’s comments about him during the 2016 presidential election; the then-Suits actress had described Trump as “misogynistic” and “divisive” in a late-night interview during the election news cycle.

Trump has also recently butted heads with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer over immigration, the war in Iran and short-lived British ambassador to the U.S. Peter Mandelson. However, he had far more positive things to say about King Charles ahead of the monarch's four-day U.S. visit next week.
Asked by the BBC if the King's visit could ease tensions between the longtime ally nations, Trump raved. "Absolutely. He's fantastic. He's a fantastic man. Absolutely the answer is yes."
"I know him well, I've known him for years," he added. "He's a brave man, and he's a great man. They would absolutely be a positive."

The King and Queen Camilla touch down in Washington, D.C., on Monday, April 27, kicking off a four-day visit, tied to the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence from the United Kingdom, that will include appearances in D.C., New York City and Virginia.
During his time in Washington, King Charles will follow in his mother's footsteps and become just the second-ever British monarch to deliver an address to a joint meeting of Congress. The late Queen Elizabeth delivered a speech at the Capitol in 1991, the third of four official state visits to the U.S. she made over the course of her reign.
