The Avatar film series may follow a fictional race of Na’vi, but behind those blue faces are real actors.
The third installment of James Cameron’s epic film series Avatar has arrived with Fire and Ash, which hit theaters on Dec. 19. In the film, audiences see another Na’vi tribe living on Pandora — the fiery, aggressive Mangkwan, a.k.a. the Ash People. Meanwhile, the conflict between the Na’vi and humans escalates further, bringing Pandora to the brink of collapse.
"I wouldn't call it a dark film,” Cameron told Entertainment Weekly in August 2024. “I think it goes to darker places than the previous ones did, but it's still obviously this open, glorious, grand adventure, which is what we aspire to do every time we set out."
This time around, viewers will see the film series' big stars — like Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña and Sigourney Weaver — reprise their roles from the previous films. But new faces have also joined the cast, like Game of Thrones alum Oona Chaplin.
