She said the tour gave her “purpose” during a difficult personal chapter.
Swift also reflected on how her relationship with fiancé Travis Kelce feels different from past relationships.
Taylor Swift has long let her music do the talking when it comes to heartbreak. In the fourth episode of her Disney+ docuseries End of an Era, however, the singer offered one of her most direct reflections yet on navigating multiple breakups while sustaining the largest tour of her career.
Speaking candidly about the early stretch of the Eras Tour, Swift acknowledged how closely her personal and professional lives collided. “There were points in this tour where the tour was really the only thing keeping me going in my life,” she said. “But there were never points in the tour when I thought, Oh, you know what? I want to quit the tour because the tour’s hard. No, my personal life was hard.”
Swift went on to address the breakups directly—and explain that the discipline and structure of the tour became a stabilizing force. “I went through two breakups on the first half of this tour, and that’s a lot of breakups, actually,” she said. “The show was what gave me purpose and was what I could use to get me out of bed. The tour has never been the hard thing in my life. The tour has been the thing that has allowed me to find purpose outside of the shit that was going wrong in my life.”
She concluded: “Men will let you down. The Eras Tour never will.”
While Swift didn’t name ex-boyfriends Joe Alwyn or Matty Healy directly, the timeline she described aligns with her 2023 split from Alwyn, following a six-year relationship, and her brief reconnection with Healy later that year. The docuseries marks the first time she has spoken so explicitly about how that period affected her day-to-day life.
Swift also contrasted her earlier experiences with her current relationship with Travis Kelce, noting a shift she hadn’t previously found possible while touring. “Relationships on tour has always been something I’ve really struggled with because it always felt like the tour was taking away from the relationship,” she explained. “Somehow there’s been this dynamic shift with Travis because it’s shocking how many similarities we have toward our jobs and how we view them and how we view each other.”
