The comedy marks Cruise's first collaboration with director Alejandro G. Iñárritu (The Revenant, Birdman)
The movie is a departure from action movies for Cruise, who has only appeared in Mission: Impossible movies and Top Gun: Maverick since 2017
Tom Cruise is unveiling a look at his new comedy with The Revenant director Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
On Thursday, Dec. 18, Warner Bros. released a short teaser for Cruise's Digger. Little is known about the movie, and the teaser only shows a silhouetted Cruise, 63, dancing with a shovel in his hands and standing on top of a fence at what appeared to be an ocean-side boardwalk.
"In Digger we trust," Cruise wrote in an Instagram caption as he shared the video on his social media pages. "DIGGER. A comedy of catastrophic proportions. Only in theaters October 2026."

Cruise has not appeared in a movie outside of the Mission: Impossible or Top Gun franchises since 2017, when he released American Made and The Mummy. PEOPLE first confirmed he was working with filmmaker Iñárritu, 62, back in February 2024.
In May, the four-time Academy Award-winning director behind movies like Birdman told The Hollywood Reporter that his upcoming movie with Cruise was tentatively titled Judy. While the title appears to have since changed, Iñárritu described the film as "a brutal, wild comedy of catastrophic proportions" at the time.
"It’s scary and funny and beautiful," he added. "I know comedy is not what people expect from me or Tom, and making this film was terrifying for me, but I don’t like to repeat myself, and every film should scare you a little."

Tom Cruise in Digger
Cruise most recently appeared on the big screen in this year's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. Back in May, Ana de Armas told multiple outlets that she and Cruise were working with Christopher McQuarrie and Doug Liman on multiple potential projects.
Digger is in theaters October 2026.
